Catch Me, If You Can – The Bolder Boulder

This Memorial Day I joined 50,000+ people running, walking, and rolling through the streets in the 29th annual Bolder Boulder. The annual 10K road race has been held in Boulder since 1979. Along with the Boulder Creek Festival, it’s Boulder’s official kick-off to Summer.

If you have an opportunity to run or watch the Bolder Boulder in the future, here’s what to expect; music and entertainment including hula and belly dancers, a Journey cover band (in costume), Slip ‘n Slides, Elvis impersonators, a Scottish bagpipe band, and homes where residents offered runners a cold spray from their water hoses. You’ll also find several spots along the way where volunteers hand out cups of cold water or Gatorade. Expect plenty of encouragement and high-fives from bystanders. The Bolder Boulder is a rocking good time.

It’s also good for the local economy. I’m not sure if there are *official* statistics, but according to one person (who claimed insider knowledge), the event brings $9MM in revenue to the City. That’s in addition to the many businesses small and large who benefit.

On a personal note: I set modest goals for my first Bolder Boulder. Up until today, 10K was further than I had ever run before. My #1 goal was to run all the way to the finish. And I did.
