Craving Classical? Boulder’s the Place to Be!

by Osman Parvez ---- Many in Boulder are lamenting the loss of KVOD, Colorado Public Radio’s classical music station, which no longer has decent reception in the city since the switch to 88.1 FM. However, from music festivals to solo recitals, classical music is being performed everywhere. Since 1978, the Colorado Music Festival has been a staple of summer at Chautauqua Park, commonly featuring pieces by Mozart, Stravinsky, and Beethoven. Last Friday, the festival wrapped up six weeks of concerts, with performances by dozens of artists, including the St. Petersburg String Quartet and fifteen-year-old Shannon Lee. A myriad of concerts [...]

Watch Osman Sing and Dance

by Osman Parvez Seriously? Yes. Seriously. This Sunday evening I'll be performing with the Boulder Timberliners at the 58th Annual Harmony Festival at Chautauqua and you're invited! Every summer since 1949, the Boulder Chapter has hosted an annual Barbershop Harmony Festival at the Chautauqua Auditorium. The show features quartets and choruses from up and down the Colorado Front Range, including both men's and women's groups, and is a perennial family favorite. In addition to the individual groups strutting their stuff, a highlight will be several songs performed by a mass chorus consisting of over 200 singers on stage at once. [...]

Mapleton Historic District 3rd Annual Rummage Sale

by Osman Parvez ---- Mapleton is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Boulder. Historic homes, tall well established trees, and perfectly located. Often, when people describe the perfect Boulder home, it's this neighborhood they envision. Here's an excuse to wander around, take in some beauty, and maybe pick up a few bargains. The Third Annual Rummage Sale is tomorrow Saturday June 9, from 8am to 1pm. No early birds. I'll post the map when I find it. Sorry, no online viewable map but just head over to the neighborhood. There will be printed maps available at individual yard sales. [...]

Catch Me, If You Can – The Bolder Boulder

by Osman Parvez ---- This Memorial Day I joined 50,000+ people running, walking, and rolling through the streets in the 29th annual Bolder Boulder. The annual 10K road race has been held in Boulder since 1979. Along with the Boulder Creek Festival, it's Boulder's official kick-off to Summer. If you have an opportunity to run or watch the Bolder Boulder in the future, here's what to expect; music and entertainment including hula and belly dancers, a Journey cover band (in costume), Slip 'n Slides, Elvis impersonators, a Scottish bagpipe band, and homes where residents offered runners a cold spray from [...]

Cruise on This

by Osman Parvez Ok, this doesn't have much to do with the analysis of the Real Estate Market in Boulder. Consider it a small window into our creative community instead. Last night I, along with some friends, enjoyed the weekly cruiser bike ride that occurs every Thursday in Boulder. Except instead of the more typical 250 to 300 or so riders during the peak summer months, 650+ people were on the ride. Imagine a massive parade of people (and pets) on two, three, and four wheels in all manner of mostly red, white, and blue dress cruising through the streets [...]

Sing, Dance, and… Fly?

by Osman Parvez This coming weekend, The Ars Nova Singers and the Frequent Flyers Dance Company will be performing Carmina Burana at CU's Macky Auditorium. Performances are scheduled for Saturday, May 20th at 8:00pm and Sunday May 21st, at 2:00pm. Why am I posting about this? Well, because I'm one of the aerial dancers! No, no. Just kidding. As a kid, I struggled to climb the rope in gym glass. You'll find me with both feet firmly on the ground as I sing with Ars Nova. If you haven't planned your weekend as yet, give this performance a shot. I [...]

Real Estate Links for the Boulder Region

by Osman Parvez Vail Dollar Volume exceeds $2.0BN. While I was working on Nantucket, I thought $1.0BN was a high water mark! It's expected to exceed $1.3BN this year, and the wave of wealthy Baby Boomers seeking luxury second homes is expected to continue. Intelligent office space? File this under trends to watch. Factors driving the trend of living closer to downtown (re-urbanization): More workers are choosing flexible work, keeping offices at home, with easy telecommuting. Thus, the value of neighborhoods where you can walk to the grocery, park, playground, shopping, and cafes will continue to increase. The Realty Unique [...]
