Last year, there were 1.6 million fires reported in the United States. Although it always seems to happen to someone else, it’s a real danger. Over 300 people died in fires during 2006. And just like lightning, it can strike twice.

Yesterday there was a fire at Gold Run in Boulder. Again.

You could say I have some familiarity with Gold Run. Years ago, I lived there for a Summer. It’s located centrally and in close proximity to the university. The units are nicely situated and all are a little different from one another. It’s right on the Boulder Creek path. You can easily walk to Scott Carpenter Park or nearby shopping and entertainment. We’ve helped clients buy condos in Gold Run. A good friend of ours also owns several investment properties in the complex.

Although fires can happen anywhere, similar to the one last year, this fire appears to have been started by careless residents. Last time it was a Hooka Pipe left unattended. I heard this one was started by an unattended Tiki torch. Luckily nobody was killed. Kudos to the firefighters who worked hard and fast to get residents out.

In an email exchange, a friend of ours wrote (to another who had recently moved out):

well, very glad nobody was killed.

your insurance company is going to be cursing, I’m sure.

I really feel for that guy that was displaced by the previous fire. He’s gotta be considering a new aqua-culture based living unit of some kind. A moat, glass walls with water all around – aquarium living.

Very glad you’re outta there. Too many stoned CU students playing – and losing – with fire.
